  • Population: 2.1 million.
  • Capital: Windhoek.
  • Country is politically stable – democratic elected government serving 5 year terms.
  • Mining and Exploration: 8% of GDP; 50% of foreign exchange earnings.
  • Excellent infrastructure and an established and diverse mining industry.
  • 5th largest uranium producer in the world. The Namaqua Metamrphic Complex (also referred to as Namaqua Mobile Belt) forms a belt of Mesoproterozoic gneisses that extends across a significant portion of Namibia.
  • Namibia is known for low grade, large uranium deposits.
  • Rio Tinto’s Rossing Mine produces 7% of all uranium in the world and contributes 26% of Namibian export earnings.
  • Paladin Resources’ Langer Heinrich deposit commenced production in May 2008.
  • Areva is currently fast-tracking the Trekkopje Deposit a project they purchased from UraMin Inc. in 2007 for a sum of US$2.5 billion.
  • Forsys Metals is the subject of a CAD$579 million take over for its 62 million pound uranium resource, with grades of 130 parts per million (PPM).
  • Uranium exploration and mining is an important element of Namibia’s economy.
